We had a chat (back in February) with Ellen McLain & John Patrick Lowrie about their work in the gaming industry as voice actors. Best known as the voices of GLaDOS from the Portal series and “The Sniper” from Team Fortress 2.

Ellen McLain
Ellen McLain is best known to gamers as the voice of “GLaDOS” from Portal 1 & 2. However she is also the voice of the “Administrator” from Team Fortress 2, the “Combine Overwatch Announcer” from the Half-Life series and will be the “Broodmother” in the upcoming strategy game Dota 2. Ellen also has a musical background as an opera singer. Portal fans will already be familiar with her musical talents as she sang the songs “Still Alive” and “Want You Gone” written byJonathan Coulton which featured in the games. Additionally, she sang the bonus track at the end of Portal 2 officially named “Cara Mia Addio” but often referred to as the “Turret Opera”. Ellen is married to John Patrick Lowrie a fellow actor we also had the opportunity to talk to!

John Patrick Lowrie
John Patrick Lowrie is known (to us) as the voice of the “Sniper” from Team Fortress 2 but has worked on many other games including Half Life 2, The Matrix Online, Left 4 Dead, Halo 3: ODST and The Lord of the Rings: War in the North…to name a few! He has a musical background as a composer, guitarist, singer, flautist and trombonist. John has also worked as an actor in theater, film, television and radio. Recently John has ventured into the realm of writing. His first published science fiction novel “Dancing With Eternity” has been enjoying rave reviews and popularity since it’s launch.
